Thematic Week: War in Ukraine – Scholarly Perspectives (completed)
Objective
After Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, it is currently completely open in what way and under what circumstances the war can or will come to an end. In addition to direct support for those affected, these developments also call for a substantive, scholarly debate and thus represent a challenge for the various academic disciplines that deal with the post-Soviet space in general and the more recent developments between Ukraine and Russia in particular.
With the thematic week "War in Ukraine – Scholarly Perspectives " (February 22-24, 2023), the Volkswagen Foundation intends to react to this situation and offer an opportunity to reflect on causes and perspectives of the war in Ukraine as well as to discuss consequences for the further development of those scientific disciplines which are scholarly engaged with the post-Soviet space. The foundation invites applications for scientific symposia, which will be brought together in the thematic week. In addition to the program of funded symposia, there will also be joint slots for exchange between the participants of all symposia.
General Conditions
The symposia funded by the Volkswagen Foundation take place at the conference center Xplanatorium Herrenhausen Palace in Hannover. Details on requirements as well as the application procedure can be found under Information for Applicants 01e (PDF). Applications must be filed electronically via the electronic application system.
Background
The call for proposals for this thematic week is being held as part of the "Symposia" funding initiative.
